Happy Leopard Release Day!

Today is the day Apple finally officially, 100% releases OSX 10.5, AKA Leopard. Poised to potentially make Apple a cool $200 Million Leopard comes on the heals of another major Apple release, the iPhone.

I’ve purposely been vague in reporting anything about Leopard. I used the beta that was given out at WWDC2006 and wasn’t amazingly happy with it. There were enough problems that I had to regress to Tiger, which was expected anyways. Now that it has another year of development under it, I’ll probably walk into my local Apple store tonight and pick up my own copy.

Of course that road won’t be easy or quick either. There is a lot of work involved in setting Leopard up for the first time, but I’ve got a new 250GB hard drive to facilitate that. Luckily those fancy New York reporters have already done the reviews for you.

I’m really looking forward to both Time Machine and Spaces. Time Machine because lets face it, who does backups out side of a corporate server environment? And I’m REALLY looking forward to Spaces. I’ve used various 3rd party programs that do the same thing on OSX and Windows, and have heavily used the same feature on Linux and FreeBSD. Virtual Desktops is a lifesaver for cramped windows.

In closing all I can say is “Keep up the good work Apple.”
