Let’s face it, Apple LCD’s are more expensive then others, especially Dell. But the fact is, that at most price points Apple Cinema displays just look better.

Coding Horror has a great chart explaining the different technologies in LCD’s, and includes their Pros and Cons. Apple monitors tend to use S-IPS technology which in addition to having better color quality also has better viewing angles. Most other brands still use TN, which is cheaper, but has a corresponding reduction in color quality too.

Remember, Dell LCD’s are good for home use, or for the rank and file at work. But give the Apple Cinema displays to the guys in the Art Department, or anyone who deals with color on a constant basis. The quality of work they produce will easily pay for itself.
