3 Dimensional Data Storage = MUCH Larger Hard drives

Arstechnica has a great article on IBM’s new race track memory storage. Using nanowires they will be able to drastically increase storage space in the same form factor as any solid state or current platter driven storage.

On the surface it looks like this type of memory is poised to easily bypass the storage potential of Holographic Memory, and more importantly will probably use a lot less power. All that remains to be seen though is how IBM will get the memory to store data long term without any power at all.
