<a href="#comment-3223" rel="nofollow">@Laura</a>
Hello, my name is Monika,,living in germany. I was contacted couple days ago over blackplanet,,from a man claiming to be Williampaul Laidler.Saying him being stationed in Afghanistan,,being there for already 18 month.Him being divorced, no children.
He mailed me some pictures of him,,showing him in uniform and in private cloth.Cause i got scammed badly before,, i was careful about it. Cause i got a prepaid cell phone connection,,i gave him my phonenumber,,and he even called me.He did not sound like an african person,,,but i got suspisious cause i also found this profile on myspace,,showing the same pics i received from him. With the difference him saying being 48 years turning 49 in june. At the profile of my space it was saying 51 years old.
He was claiming his dad being from california and his mum being german.ON the phone he was speaking english and also german.
Well, i will ask him for his mailaddress in afghanistan in order to "send him a birthday present" there..Lets see what he will response. If he can not come up with it,,i will know he is a scammer....I will keep you informed.

Someone suggested this blog after reading my comments about this problem in Google Groups. Thanks for your ideas. Now, my follow-up:

1) When you go to the download page ;you linked, there is no longer an option to download ver. 6.2. Your only choices are 7.1 (default) or Previous Version 7.0.

2) I had a link that someone else had posted to download ver. 6.2 and I still had that file in my Downloads folder, so I installed it again. I’d previously tried installing this version and it didn’t work, but I wanted to try your second suggestion. For your second suggestion, you said to disconnect from the Internet and Google Earth should open just fine. It did and I tried changing the Preferences. However, I could not change any 3D options as they were all grayed out and inaccessible. I decided to reconnect to the Internet and after doing that, those 3D options were available. I changed them all to what you said and restarted Google Earth. I also turned off Tips since I’d seen that suggestion earlier by someone else. I thought everything was gong to work, because GE opened and actually started up. That was more than I’d been able to achieve previously. I could navigate around and all was going well until I put a destination in the Search box. As soon as I clicked on Search, I got the “current meeting” notice and Google Earth crashed as soon as I clicked on OK, which was the only option.

I guess I’ll keep looking for ideas and use Google Earth on my virtual machine in Fusion.
