So President Bush authorized the NSA to spy on Americans. This was done without a warrant and the Telecom companies even went along with it. Luckily a few Senators are actually being smart and attempting to fix this, even though they’re only trying to pull out the retroactive immunities instead of squashing the entire bill like it should be.
Realistically, I don’t care to much that Bush is trying to cover his tracks, and give himself a get out of jail card. There is ample proof that he is either stupid, or the World’s biggest crook. What I do care about is that he’s setting precedent here. If Big Business can get away with this, who knows what they’ll try to get away with next? Perhaps mass polluting? Tax dodging? First Amendment violations?
Legal Precedent is usually a useful tool. It helps drastically stream line court cases and makes a judges job easier. But when the Legal Precedent removes some pretty major rights, or violates privacy rights like in this case then I have some major issues with it.
If you’re as outraged as I am about this, I highly suggest you contact your Senators here: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Apparently it doesn’t matter anymore:

(In case yahoo goes down - Bush signed it, ACLU is challenging it)
