Gun Control Proposal

This is not a rant or argument about the true meaning of the Second Amendment. Rather I propose a simple way to kill two birds with one stone… er bullet.

Public executions via firing squad.

Now, hear me out here. There are currently 3309 people on Death Row. With yearly costs in the $90,000+ range the money saved could be put to better use. I’ll also be the heartless bastard and go so far as to add in the number of people are are in prison for life with no chance of parole at $20k/per a year should be upgraded to Death Row. The money saved could be put to a lot of uses that would take a whole post by itself to talk about.

About 30,000 people a year die in gun-related deaths. The huge bulk of them are out and out murders. (Keep in mind that about 47,000 people died in traffic related accidents each year too.) That may sound a lot, but with the US Population coming up on 300 million people statistics can get over inflated.

Here’s the proposal part. Anyone who wants to carry a gun can. In public, concealed, whatever. But they have to go through gun safety training and licensing that is renewed every 8-10 years just like drivers licenses. Gun safety training is pretty tame really and for the most part boils down to “don’t ever point the dangerous end at anyone unless you intend to kill them.” BUT… by going for a license, they will automatically be inducted into the US Militia (perhaps having a boot camp weekend as part of their renewal,) AND they MUST be part of a government sanctioned firing squad for those on death row.

The usual firing squad actions can be taken, for instance having a mix of blanks and live ammunition handed out, but I firmly believe that by seeing your actions first hand will encourage people, and heres the rub especially kids, that guns are dangerous and are to be treated as powerful tools.

I’d even go so far as to say that only those who DO have a gun license can run for public office. We might for once have a group of people who are acutely aware of the direction ramifications of their actions and perhaps… even have the public’s goodwill more in mind.
