Is the Religious Right still important to the Republican Party

Now that the election is over it’s getting pretty obvious that Palin has lost a lot of favor in the Republican Party, despite reports to the contrary.

Does this mean the Republican Party is realizing that they went TOO Conservative in the past eight years? Does it signal a change for not only the Republicans, but for politics in general? Will Obama’s history making records really make a difference in future elections?

Is this a sign of fragmentation in the Republican Party, and a possible new party?
