With unarguable proof that the United States is officially in a recession (and has been for over a year,) I present to you a list of jobs that will weather the recession.
5.) Member of President-Elect Obama’s Cabinet
The “best” job in the United States is looking for subordinates to help run the Country. The only qualification is that you have to be willing to stick to your guns and tell the President how it is. Race, Criminal Records, gender, or even Party Affiliation. Plus these jobs are actually fairly well paying positions and have a bit of influence, they’re also good for four year. The only downside is that public opinion could actually force your resignation in a couple of years.
4.) Prostitute/Drug Dealer
While not one hundred percent recession proof jobs they both weather though economic times quite well. Such services will always have clients. On the other hand there is the chance of getting arrested, shot, raped, or killed. The moral ambiguities now withstanding, such job titles don’t bandy well around at the PTA Meetings or over coffee and donuts.
3.) Lobbyist
No matter how bad the recession and economy gets there always seems to be money to throw at politicians. It’s like they expect it or something. As long as laws are still being passed by Congress, people, companies, and other affiliations of like minded individuals will want to influence those votes. With the bad reputation that lobbyist have gotten in the past few years, some might prefer to do the prostitution/drug dealer thing.
2.) Military
The career of choice for the fresh out of high school kid with no family, wife, or kids. Sure, you might get sent to a hot desert and get shot at, but at least the pay is steady.
1.) Walmart Greeter
Walmart is one of the few companies that will do great in the Recession. Sure the benefits suck. The pay sucks. The company sucks. Mandatory unpaid overtime is common. Health benefits are a laugh. Even the job itself sucks. But it’s a steady paycheck and it’s near impossible to get fired there unless you’re costing the company money.
So, if you’re worried about your job in this recession, take my list and head over to Monster.com and start one of these high paying jobs today.
