Canon Patents Iris Watermarking
On the surface this doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal. But copyright theft and infringement of photos posted online continues to be a huge issue.
Canon though has decided to patent technology that uses a person’s iris in the eye as the digital watermark. These are to be embedded in the picture itself, probably on a hidden layer, and on the fly when the picture is taken.
This is pretty cool technology, but unfortunately leaves those of us who do not shoot Canon out in the cold, unless they decide to license the technology out.
